What is GDPR

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation that came to effect from May 25, 2018. This regulation was passed by the European Union to provide the citizen's control over how their personal data is stored, processed and used by the companies.

What is personal data

Any data that contains information relating to identify or an identifiable natural person. This may include name, address, email address, financial information, contact information, Identification numbers.

In some cases, it can include digital information like IP address, geolocation, browsing history, cookies and other digital identifiers. You can find out more about the GDPR here.

How are we complying with GDPR

A GDPR protection setting is available for all domain names if any one of the contact names for the domain contains personal information which is from the European Economic Area (EEA). This information can be present in either the registrant contact, admin contact, technical contact or the billing contact. When enabled the contact information is replaced by a placeholder text in the public WHOIS records.

This setting is enabled by default for all eligible domain names and can be disabled from the domain order information card. Learn How.

Note

If you have registered a domain name managed by a registry that requires us to provide your data to the registry, then such data may be published in a publicly available Whois database by the registry. If you do not wish to have this data shared or published, you will need to delete the domain registration with the registry.
